In the nzhelele valley, where poverty and unemployment were long shadows on many families, the Boko Simango Foundation became a beacon of hope and transformation. Founded three years ago by Joshua Boko Simango, the foundation goes beyond short-term relief and focuses on sustainable solutions to raise disadvantaged communities.
A leader passionate about community development, Simango saw firsthand the struggles of young people and realized that only food parcels don't break the cycle of poverty. Instead, he took a different approach. They secure corporate donations, work with local organizations to provide training, and have the skills to young people to find stable employment.
Since its founding, the foundation has changed countless lives through various empowerment programs. It provides grocery plots for struggling families, but more importantly, it offers long-term opportunities such as free computer courses, driving school lessons, and employment assistance.
For many beneficiaries, the foundation was life-changing. Tshilidzi Mudau, 25, from Ha-Rabali, is one of the young people who benefited from Simango's efforts. “I was struggling to find a job. I felt it was impossible without experience or skills. But I received security training through the Boko Simango Foundation and within a few weeks I found a job. Now I can take care of my family,” she said.
Simango believes that true progress comes when communities come together and support each other. “We can't wait for the government to solve all the problems. If we have the ability to support, we should. My dream is to see more young people become independent and use their skills to enhance others,” he said.
