tHis crucial annual event, now in its 12th year, allows public and private sector employees to exchange knowledge, develop skills, enhance service delivery and address the challenges facing local governments. This year's rally is particularly important in the legislative framework and critical infrastructure and energy challenges, organizers said.
The conference is supported by the Western Cape Department of Treasury and the Bureau of Infrastructure and is organized by Smart Procurement World. All civil and private sector officials in the region are invited to attend, including local government managers, chief financial officers, department heads, supply chain and procurement role players, asset managers and regional economic development (LED) staff. Government departments, engineers and asset managers will also be present.
The theme of the 2025 event is “Blueprint for Influence: Creating a Growth Legacy.”
Debbie Tag, Chief Operating Officer of Smart Procurement, provides an overview of the rationale. “This year we will explore advance strategies that address immediate needs while building resilient systems for long-term growth and economic change.
Disaster management, strategic sourcing, disaster management through promoting partnerships for growth, and community empowerment are one of the topics on the agenda.
The private sector will be represented by corporate sourcing sessions for Western Cape procurement and supply chain professionals. According to TAGG, another value-added this year is SMEs and supplier events hosted alongside the main procurement meeting. “It is a unique platform that brings together businesses, businesses and corporate development stakeholders, creating an environment for market access and business growth in the region.”
This year's major sessions for the compelling program include a discussion entitled “From Challenges to Solutions: Procurement as a Catalyst of Change.”

The panel discussion will explore the future of procurement and provide important skills to thrive in the digital age. “Beyond Compliance: Cultivating a Performance-Driven Procurement Culture” is the title of a presentation by Cindy Lekei, a procurement specialist at the Western Cape Department of Treasury.
The agenda is also embedding sustainability into your core procurement strategy. As consumers demand more ethical choices and ESG regulations become more stringent, procurement sustainability has become a strategic obligation. In this session, positive companies are moving beyond box tics, creating a resilient, transparent supply chain that brings both purpose and profit.
