The Copano-damaged movement at KWA-Thema transformed Mandela Day into a gift celebration, proving community support is two-way streets.

KWA-Thema – The Copano Disorder Movement (KDM) touched many hearts in the spirit of Mandela and touched the initiative to contribute to the community that supports them.

KDM, led by Centre Manager Kate Marope, has donated to various organizations in the community on Mandela Day to show gratitude for the support they have received from the community over the years.

“It was Mandela's way of showing humility towards people, so today we decided to give back to the community that supports us by spending 67 minutes at Badger Holdings in Celcote.

“We believed that was a great initiative because we aim to receive and give back,” Marope said.

Participating in KDM was EMPD, sponsoring Soup Kitchen to feed marginalized groups in the community along with donations. The General Church of Christ also gave a donation.

KDM offers a skill development programme for people with disabilities to acquire skills such as beadwork, crocheting, carpentry and agriculture.

“Because I am a woman with a disability myself, I want to inspire hope for all other disabled people and let them know that they are valued and recognized in our society and that their dreams can be realized too.”

For more information about the organization, call Molape on 079 814 3715 or visit KWA-Thema Ext 3, 26952 Madiba Street.
