Johannesburg – Cell C, FNB Connect's network provider, encountered a cybersecurity breach, leading to unauthorized access to IT systems by Ransomhouse.
Network provider Cell C promotes FNB's SIM service delivery through infrastructure and networks.
As a result, a violation of Cell C's IT system led to a compromise on FNB-connected mobile phone numbers.
“The incident occurred in the IT environment of Cell C, but the integrity of the IT environment of FNB remains intact,” FNB said in a letter sent to the FNB Connect client.
“FNB scans IT and security environments and has not found evidence of unauthorized access to the FNB system or data stored in that environment.
“However, FNB has connected a mobile phone number stored in a CellC IT environment.”
FNB said it continues to monitor the situation while the investigation is underway and is working closely with Cell C.
“We are working with Cell C to limit further compromises and engage with our respective regulators,” the letter sent to our client said.
“Your safety and security are our number one priority.
“We took immediate steps to address the violation and implemented enhanced security measures to prevent future incidents.”
FNB said it helps to protect your information, we recommend you be particularly vigilant.” Use the following tip:
