On Thursday, August 14, 2025, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Station (JMPD) said there was a protest against around 300 residents outside Maponya Mall.
Law enforcement units from the South African Police Service (SAPS), National Traffic, Gauteng Traffic and JMPD were on the scene.
“Protesters have requested that it be addressed by the mall management. The situation remains calm and under police control,” said JMPD spokesman Principal Xolani Fihla.
“As a precaution, Chris Honey Road between Marla Street and Mokoena Street is closed and Maponya Mall is currently not open to the public.
“If possible, we will urge residents to avoid the area and use alternative routes.”
