on March 12, 2025, the Minister of Infrastructure of the Tertuy Peoples Western Cape Addresses the annual tradition Women and Leadership Conference Sandton in Johannesburg.
In our current fourth year, one of the key achievements of last year's conference was the inclusion of male leadership opinions and support, particularly in the STEM/male population sector. Adding his voice as support to deal with the delegation is MD, Transport and Greater Africa, Vishaal Lutchman and Zutari.
This year's speakers are:
- Dr. Gugu Moche, Group Executive: Digital Transformation and Acting DCE: Research, Innovation, Impact Support and Progress (RIISA) National Research Foundation
- Natasha Ramkirpal, Group Lead – Water Security Optimization, Coca-Cola Beverage Africa
- Technologist-Highways, Aecom
- Zandile Pule, SNR Manager: Asset Optimization, Strategy, Systems Global, Goldfield
- Monique Schmidt, Implementation Coordinator Engineering & CAPEX, AB InBev
- Celeste Le Roux, Founder and CEO of React Group
- Nosihle Dlamini, Senior Manager, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Company, South Africa
Speakers on the podium reiterate the fact that it is not difficult or impossible to have a career in a STEM or male populated sector. With this in mind, organizers are aiming to not only profile women who have already reached the top, but also identify new talent, future managers and SA CEOs. Each year, the steward ensures that the speaker panels are not repeated and profiles the contributions that have been exposed to more women over the years and contributed to these sectors.
In addition to the above, this year's theme aims to change statistics and make women aware of the opportunities available to them through a series of meetings that will help them develop, unite and empower them in a variety of professional careers. Statistics show that only 13% of South Africa's STEM graduates are women. This is below PAR when compared to the global average of 35%. Expanding the scope, women hold only 28% of STEM-related jobs. When expanding the engineering sector, this shows even lower participation, with fewer than 25% of candidate engineers being women and only 6% achieving professional status.
So far, the series of conferences in the “It's Due” series have brought women from various sectors to the forefront and made their contribution to the economy more prominent. Without leaving behind young talent, Pinpoint Stewards includes 10 young professionals appointed by universities and institutions of higher education, attend daily meetings and feature mentoring and employment opportunities during contact sessions.
“For over 20 years in the conference industry, we have seen more women reach the top while not only attending viewers, but also while taking women, seeing more women reach the top, gain the skills and courage they need to get into a career, or reach for the lead. It's not your presence, you need to ensure that your performance and women are equipped. The speaker panel is specially chosen to harness homemade talent and prove that you actually have what you actually lead within the boundaries of South Africa.”
