DURBAN – A record number of participants have been poured into Durban for the 8th Annual Creative Coffee Week, hosted by a coffee magazine that includes the World Champion and four other international coffee experts.

Participants at the two-day event, July 30th and 31st, discussed the future of the SA coffee scene, particularly in the agricultural sector.

Leading the discussion on global trends in coffee and coffee production were two representatives: Georgius “ODI” Teja, Cup of Excellence Head Judge, Stephen Vic, award-winning Coffee Farmer, David Maguta of Kenya, Columbia Coffee Growers Association and Maria Arejandra Orano and Diego Robrin.

Editors of Coffee Magazine and event organizer Mel Winter said the theme of Creative Coffee Week is “the big picture.”

Winter said the event in Durban was the first of three Creative Coffee Week events around South Africa to be held in the coming months.

“The big picture is basically three coffee puzzles, making up the farm-to-cup supply chain,” Winter said.

KZN's legs will focus on coffee agriculture and production in SA, where Cape Town events focus on roasting, while the final event in JHB's series will focus on coffee retail and services. ”
