DURBAN – Emergency responders have discovered the body of a dead man inside the facility after firefighters announced a fire that swallowed a shop along Unbilo Road near Heather Road in Durban.

ALS Paramedics spokesman Garrith Jamieson narrated the event leading to a tough discovery, saying, “After 7:30am on Saturday evening, Als Paramedics responded to numerous fire calls on Umbilo Road.

“The paramedics arrived with the Esekweni Fire Station and found what was believed to be a store completely enveloped in flames.”

Jamieson said paramedics must wait at a safe distance while firefighters fight the flames.

“When a fire broke out, firefighters were checked on the property and there were reports of missing people,” Jamieson said.

“Sadly, one man, believed to be in his 30s, was found deadly burned.

“Unfortunately, there was nothing the paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead at the scene.”

At this stage the cause of the fire was unknown.

SA Police Service officers were in attendance.
