JOHANNESBURG – The Ministry of Home Affairs has fired six officials for various fraud and corrupt practices, Dr. Leon Schreiber announced.

In a post on X on Tuesday (April 8, 2025), he said the latest terminations have brought 33 staff members who have been fired for similar crimes since July 2024.

“Eight convictions are secured for a sentence of four to 18 years, with 19 more prosecutors ongoing,” Minister Schreiber said.

The latest layoffs followed the recent launch of the Border Control and Anti-Corruption Forum, which further strengthened coordination with the Interior Affairs, the Border Control Agency, the Special Investigation Department (SIU), and the national prosecutor's agency.

Minister Schreiber added: “The speed at which the Ministry of Home Affairs, working with the SIU, is removing corruption from within us, shows that rapid progress can be made in the fight against this tragedy.

“I made it clear to the department that the delays were not tolerated and that the last corrupt official would not be left off until they are fired.”

Minister Schreiber concluded: “I commend the inter-departmental team for their progress in ensuring that corruption and the dirt from the capture of the nation will be the right institution.

“My message to the rest of the assailants is clear. It's only a matter of time before we can capture you and hold you accountable.”
