Johannesburg – Illegal water connections are cut off by Johannesburg water.
The illegal cutting operations by Johannesburg water in the central business district and south of the city (region F) began early on Wednesday (April 9, 2025).
“This project is part of an ongoing effort to address the substantial challenges posed by Johannesburg's waters unauthorized connections with the urban water network, which again contributes to water losses,” Johannesburg Water said.
“This also contributes to revenue collection efforts, which is important for maintaining and upgrading the water and sewer infrastructure of Johannesburg.”
Following a risk assessment conducted by Johannesburg Water Security in coordination with the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Station, the cutting is carried out in a step-by-step approach.
Johannesburg Water said it remains committed to providing essential water services to all residents, addressing the challenges posed by illegal ties.
“We remind residents that illicit connections are crimes and can damage infrastructure,” Johannesburg Water warned.
