Cape Town – Home Minister Dr. Leon Schreiber has opened a state-of-the-art new office in Mitchell's Plain, Cape Town.
On Saturday (April 6, 2025), Dr. Leon Schreiber joined us by Western Cape Mecardo Mackenzie and Mayor Jordan Hill Lewis, mayor of Cape Town.
The department admitted that because it was “too long,” Mitchell Plain and the people on the interior staff were exposed to poor conditions in small, aged offices.
The cramped situation ended when the minister opened a spacious, modern new office, almost three times larger than the old 250 seats.
The old office only had 50 seats.
The department revealed that the new office also includes upgraded technology, such as cameras installed directly at each counter, which eliminates the need to eliminate cues to take photos.

Minister Schreiber said:
“The vast improvements in facilities and technology will change our daily interactions with our services.
“We've been bringing home issues closer than ever to the people of Mitchell Plain. In the coming months, plans to expand access to services through more bank branches will be closer to bringing Home Affairs to the home.”

On Monday (April 7, 2025), Minister Schreiber will be officially opened at the Tiger Valley Shopping Centre in Bellville, Cape Town.
