Johannesburg – The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has announced the following date to pay landlords for student accommodation.
NSFAS said payments will be processed on April 17, 2025.
In preparation for this payment cycle, NSFAS has requested all solution partners to provide a comprehensive list of students who have applied for NSFAS-certified accommodation.
This list is subject to approval by their respective institutions to verify the eligibility of each student for accommodation or transportation.
Submission cut-off time will be set at 12pm on April 9th, 2025.
In a statement released late on Monday (April 7, 2025), NSFAS assured landlords that payments will be processed based on the institution's submission of registration templates for students who are not included in the global list of solution partners.
“The NSFA is urging participating institutions, both university and television universities, to submit confirmation by the established deadline of April 9, 2025 at 12pm,” the statement said.
“Institutions are also encouraged to identify and report students who are in NSFAS-certified accommodation but are not listed. NSFA will work with their solution partners to correct any inconsistencies.
“NSFA wants to repeat its appeal to landlords to refrain from ousting students and cooperate with a scheme to submit claims for accommodation in accordance with the guidelines provided.”
The NSFA said this collaboration is important to ensure that students, often vulnerable situations, maintain stable living conditions while pursuing research.
“NSFA is expressing gratitude to all landlords, universities, universities and student unions for their continued support and commitment to supporting students,” the statement said.
“These efforts are important to create a safe and supportive learning environment for students.
“NSFA is committed to engaging with accommodation providers to identify and implement long-term solutions to the challenges facing the private student accommodation sector.”
