JOHANNESBURG – The Constitutional Court has announced that it will announce the much-anticipated ruling between innovator Nkosana Makate and Vodacom, a subsidiary of British telecom giant Vodafone, on the high-stakes “Please Call Me” case.

In a post by X, the Constitutional Court stated: “Drugment filed on 10H00 on July 31, 2025: Has the Court of Appeal ignored the real issues that preceded that there was a complete failure of justice, a violation of the rule of law and a constitutional right to a fair hearing?”

The Apex Court added, “Has the Supreme Court of Appeals made beyond its jurisdiction in putting aside the High Court's order and replacing it on its own, in the absence of appeal?”

Vodacom is suing the Supreme Court of Appeals (SCA) decision that was rejected by Makate in 2019 and overturned the original R47 million compensation offer ordered a new offer.

Makate has demanded R9.4 billion for his invention, which Vodacom has benefited since 2000.
