PRETORIA – Postbank has announced that South Africa's Social Security Agency (SASSA) gold cards will continue to function beyond May 31, 2025.
Postbank said Grant beneficiaries, including gold cards, will continue to be paid Sassa grants on these cards until further notice.
“The Sassa Gold Card will continue to work with all payment systems, including ATMS and POS machines,” Postbank said on Friday (April 25, 2025).
“Beneficiaries can continue to withdraw cash from all of Postbank's partner retailers and continue to swipe for purchase.”
Postbank said this means that even after May 31, 2025, the Gold Card will continue to function today.
“In line with our commitment to ensuring that beneficiaries do not have access to grants and that there is no disruption in grant payments, Gold Cards will continue to work until all beneficiaries move to the new Black Card.
“Therefore, we are confident that this announcement will address concerns related to payments for beneficiaries who have not yet acquired a black card.”
We strongly recommend that social grant beneficiaries ignore the call to change banks. We beg them to be vigilant about misleading information that their gold cards will not work and that they will need to change the bank for this.
Also, beneficiaries are the only approved entities responsible for issuing these cards, so when it comes to Sassa Gold and Black cards, they are asked to respond to Postbank publicly available communications only.
If a beneficiary comes across information about a card that has not been communicated by the Postbank, they should not believe what is being said.
This prevents them from being misunderstood when they observe an increase in the amount of misinformation that has been communicated about the Sassa card recently.
As Gold Cards continue to function and all beneficiaries can continue to use these cards and their black cards to access payments, PostBank will notify the beneficiaries that they have temporarily suspended the distribution of new black cards to the site until further notice.
However, this does not affect those who currently have it
The card continues to function normally, so it's a Post Bank Black Card.
However, the distribution site for bank cards will be made available to the beneficiaries to access the following services:
The PIN resets the reissue of a black card for beneficiaries who have experienced beneficiaries in a lost/stolen card case who attempt to register with a cardless payment replacement.
Postbank said, “We are constantly working to improve the banking experience and quality of service standards that we should expect from us, so we will expand our appreciation for all grants in order to cooperate and understand all grants.”
