JOHANNESBURG – Ford Ranger and Ford Everest vehicles with 10R80 transmissions have been recalled due to a problem with the transmission fluid pump gear, with the manufacturer warning of a potential failure.
Announcing the recall, the National Consumer Commission (NCC) on Friday, July 24, 2026, notified consumers of a product safety recall issued by Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Manufacturing) (Pty) Ltd.
“This recall affects select 2017 to 2020 model year Ford Ranger and Ford Everest vehicles equipped with the 10R80 transmission,” the NCC said.
“The affected vehicles were sold throughout South Africa from 11 July 2018 to 28 February 2020 and were also exported to Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.
“According to the supplier, the transmission fluid pump gear in affected vehicles may fail, resulting in low oil pressure in the transmission.
“This can lead to loss of vehicle motion due to gear failure in the transmission fluid pump, increasing the risk of accidents while driving.”
Consumers with affected vehicles are urged to bring their vehicles to their nearest Ford Authorized Dealer to have the required Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Transmission Control Module (TCM) software updates completed.
Any necessary repair work will be carried out free of charge to the consumer.
