JOHANNESBURG – The city of Ekrphreni has suspended its chief information officer, Moroko Moniepao. The alleged failure to monitor this claims system contributed to a revenue loss of R200 million.
Ekrufreni city announced its move on Thursday (April 17, 2025) and said, “Following the resolution of the Ekrufreni Metropolitan Council on the Metropolitan Area at the regular council held on March 27, 2025, Chief Information Officer Moroko Monipau has taken the precautionary suspension.”
The city added: “This decision arises from serious allegations of mismanagement related to financial losses suffered by the city, primarily due to issues relating to inaccurate billing systems, interim meter readings, account operations, lack of management monitoring and poor management of the business system.
“The Council has appointed mayor to appoint an independent investigator to thoroughly investigate these allegations within the next 30 days.”
The city explained that a preventive suspension of Monyepao is necessary to maintain the integrity of the investigation and to maintain the principles of good governance, accountability and transparency within the city administration.”
