JOHANNESBURG – Rand Mutual Insurance (RMA) has entered into a strategic partnership agreement with the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) to strengthen workers compensation, occupational health and safety, and social insurance systems in Africa.
The agreement was signed during a visit by an RMA delegation led by Chief Executive Officer of Insurance, Wealth Management and Health, Bilal Adam, to the NSITF headquarters in Abuja.
Commenting on the agreement today, Monday, July 6, 2026, RMA said the partnership will focus on sharing expertise and exploring collaboration to develop a modern, responsive compensation system that protects workers while supporting productivity and economic development.
Mandla Shezi, CEO of RMA Group, said the partnership builds on the company's over 130-year history in workers' compensation and reflects the company's strategy to expand collaboration across the continent.
“For RMA, this partnership is a natural extension of over 130 years of tradition,” said Shezi, adding that the company has evolved from serving the mining sector to a broader social insurance company focused on prevention, rehabilitation and care.
He said changing workplace dynamics, technological advancements and new occupational risks are making inter-organizational collaboration increasingly important.
“As the world of work changes, no organization can move forward alone,” Shezi said.
“Partnerships like this allow us to learn from each other, strengthen our systems, and accelerate progress in ways that benefit workers, employers, and our national economy.”
The RMA said it would work with the NSITF to identify areas of mutual benefit, such as strengthening compensation systems and promoting occupational safety and health.
The insurer said the agreement also reflects its commitment to supporting stronger social protection systems across Africa through knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices.
Mr Shezi said the partnership aims to contribute to safer workplaces, stronger institutions and improved protection for workers across the continent.
“We look forward to partnerships that have a meaningful and lasting impact and are true to the values that have guided us for more than a century,” he said.
RMA, founded in 1894 to provide workers' compensation and social insurance services, says it has moved beyond its initial focus on the mining sector to serve a broader range of sectors.
“Our history has been defined by reinvention, which highlights our agility to continually adapt to new risks, new industries and new expectations for worker protection,” explained Shezi.
