Johannesburg – South Africa's National Accreditation System (SANAS) lifted a partial suspension of the Cement Accreditation Range (SANS 50197) on May 22, 2025.
The South African Standards Agency (SABS) announced the move on Monday, May 26th, 2025.
“This positive outcome is evidence that SABS promotes operational excellence as part of a broader effort to restore reliability and achieve financial sustainability,” the Department of Standards said.
Since the partial outage was imposed in August 2024, Sabs said “tiring efforts” have been made to implement robust corrective actions and strengthen the system, culminating in a comprehensive reassessment by Sanas.
However, the suspension lifting was delayed due to the cyberattack SAB faced in November 2024.
Nevertheless, suspension release confirms compliance with SABS international standards and its ability to once again provide reliable, reliable cement certification services.
“We are committed to providing a range of services to our customers,” said Lizo Makele, acting CEO of SABS. “The lifting of the suspension demonstrates our unwavering commitment to restoring the reliability of the SAB and enhancing its role as a key enabler of infrastructure development and industrial advancement in South Africa.”
Chief Operations Officer Lungelo Ntobongwana added: “This milestone confirms our focus on operational resilience and sustainable growth. We are committed to continuing improvement and ensuring that our services meet the highest standards of excellence.”
SABS reaffirms its status as a trusted national standard institution and says it remains determined in its mission to maintain the highest level of integrity and quality.
