Cape Town – South Africa has welcomed the Volvo Ex90, an electric SUV that not only sets new standards safely, but also redefines it with artificial intelligence.
Following the success of the EX30, Volvo's flagship model arrives as the smartest and most protective vehicle the brand has ever built, combining cutting-edge sensing technology with Scandinavian luxury.
The ultimate safety revolution
Volvo calls the EX90 “the safest car ever made.”
At its heart is the “Invisible Safety Shield,” a network of lidars, radars, and cameras that work with NVIDIA Drive AI to detect dangers before they become threats.
This system is more than just responsive. It provides features such as collision avoidance, cross-automatic braking, and outflow road mitigation, and forecast and prevent it.
“The Volvo EX90 represents the pinnacle of design, engineering and safety innovation,” says Felipe Yagi, Head of Marketing and Communications at Volvo Car South Africa.
“It's more than just luxury. It's a bold new chapter for South Africa's safety.”
Volvo chose to take the breathtaking cooperation this week as the epic launch venue for the innovative EX90 in South Africa at Anura Wine Estate, a family-run vineyard founded in 1989.
The architectural wonders with an impressive blend of stone, concrete, steel and African wood provided the perfect backdrop for the debut of this cutting-edge vehicle.
Half an hour after the wheel, Volvo's intelligent safety system firsthand experienced predicting danger before it happened.
The brand highlights this ability in an emotional launch video showing how the EX90's advanced features protect the driver when distractions and unexpected dangers arise.
Cooperage's modern industrial design is flooded with natural light and reflects the sophisticated fusion of technology with the Ex90 fusion of Scandinavian elegance, making this one of the most memorable vehicle launches I've participated in.
The spectacular environment perfectly complemented what Volvo has been the safest car ever built.
Great technology for smarter driving
Inside, the EX90 is just as intelligent.
The 14.5-inch touchscreen with Google built-in (map, assistant, play) and wireless Apple CarPlay keeps drivers connected, but the 9-inch driver display keeps you aware of important information at all times.
The Bowers & Wilkins 3D audio system with Dolby Atmos converts the cabin into a concert hall, and the 5G connection makes everything run seamless.
Volvo Ex90 Power Meets Accuracy
Using 380 kW and 910 nm of torque, the EX90 rocket is all almost silent from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. The 111 kWh battery supplies a city range of up to 751 km, and with 250 kW of DC fast charging, it's 10-80% in just 30 minutes.
“I can confidently say that the EX90 is the best car we've ever made,” said Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars, who drove 950km across the US in a variety of conditions.
“Charging, handling, technology – it's the beginning of a new era for Volvo.”
Available April 2024 – R2 650 000 Price
All EX90s come with a 3-year/60-000 km service plan, a 5-year/100-000 km warranty and 8-year battery coverage.
Buyers also get 3 years of free public charging, home wallbox and 10GB of monthly data.
This is not just a car, it's an intelligent, safe driving future.

The Volvo Ex90 enters a gorgeous SUV arena to fight BMW XM and Mercedes Eqs
The Volvo EX90 is not just a premium SUV, it is a direct challenge for the German high-end heavyweights.
At the price of R2 650 000, it strategically covers the BMW XM (R3.3 million) while matching the Mercedes Eqs SUV (R2.646 million) with technology, safety and refinement blows.
This is not about filling out a segment, it's about dominating it.
With its cutting-edge LIDAR safety system, a 380kW electric powertrain and Scandinavian minimalist luxury, the EX90 proves that Volvo isn't just catching up to BMW and Mercedes.
The question is not whether EX90 belongs to this elite class. It's about whether the Germans can catch up.
