GARMISTON – Ekulfreni's 10ml Tambo Springs Reservoir is nearing completion.
Commenting on the development on Monday, August 11, 2025, Ekulphreni said efforts to build appropriate water storage capacity and improve water reticulation are “increasing momentum.”
The city said it had set aside R71 million this fiscal year to finalise minor work on key reservoirs and towers.
North Mead Water Tower was also commissioned in June 2025.
“A total of R757 million is set aside to build water supply infrastructure and increase the capacity of the city's wastewater treatment plants,” the city revealed in a statement made available to Bruss.
The Tambo Springs 10ml Reservoir is part of the city's comprehensive water infrastructure program, providing important storage capacity to support Tambo Springs Inland Port.
It is Africa's largest inland port and a major logistics and warehouse hub, and plans to double the current freight logistics capacity coming and going to Gauteng.
The completion of the reservoir is essential to meet the water needs of the region's expected warehouse and logistics growth, and is essential to providing a reliable water supply to local businesses and community members.
The working range for Tambo Springs Reservoir includes:
Robust roof slab and ring beam construction. Steelworks and access ladder installation. Advanced waterproofing for water quality protection. Comprehensive stormwater and overflow infrastructure. Installing Palisade boundary fences for security, and installing the main security gate.
“These features are designed to ensure durability, safety and scalability in line with future development plans around inland port precincts,” the city said.
“This infrastructure investment supports Ekulfreni's broader strategic goals of driving economic activity, creating jobs and improving living standards.”
