Pretoria – For the first time in 31 years, the Ministry of Transport has achieved clean audit results by the South African Auditor.
Commenting on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Transport Minister Barbara Cresy and Deputy Minister Mucreco Frenwa said in a joint statement that they “welcome a clean audit of the department” and that it is a step in the right direction towards fully accountable and clean management.
“This is the first time in 31 years that a department has achieved a clean audit result,” the statement said.
The department said the clean audit was based on the audit general's opinions and conclusions in the following areas for fiscal year 2024/25.
Annual financial statements submitted on time without material misrepresentation. In internal control, the audit general could not find any significant flaws, particularly in the financial management process. Regarding performance information, the audit general did not identify findings regarding the integrity of the indicators used in planning and reporting.
Both Minister Creacy and Deputy Minister Frenwa attribute the clean audit results of the department to:
Departmental commitment to clean governance and accountability. Management takes assurance providers seriously and ensures that they are properly resourced and competent. Management will respond proactively to audit recommendations and address concerns in time through effective audit action plans. Include audit generals for aggressive reviews, prepare for the audit process for smooth and seamless execution. It combines efforts and assurance practices from all functions within the department, from management efforts to management, internal audit, and the audit committee, particularly the audit committee. The role of the Transportation Portfolio Committee ensures that the department is responsible for the Congress.
