Johannesburg – Landwater has begun critical maintenance of its main infrastructure, and low pressure or intermittent water supply may occur in areas within Johannesburg, Ekrufreni and Tswane.
In a statement available to Bulrushes, Rand Water said it plans to carry out critical maintenance on key infrastructure, which began on Thursday, May 29, 2025, as part of its commitment to ensure sustainable and efficient water supply.
“The purpose of this planned maintenance is to increase capacity, increase plant availability, reliability and operational efficiency, and to support a more resilient and adaptable water supply network in preparation for the expected increase in supply from August 2025,” Landwater said.
“Maintenance activities will begin at different times and locations in different municipalities.
“Major maintenance operations are scheduled to begin at 3:00 on May 29th and will be concluded at 17H00 on June 2nd.”
Rand Water said pump capacity will be reduced during this period at Aikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton and Zwart Copies systems.
“Regions within the cities of Johannesburg, Ekrufreni and Tswane can experience low pressure or intermittent water supply,” Landwater warned.
“Maintenance could also affect the water supply to the local governments of Landwest, Mogare City, Melaphon, Madiven, Lesedi, Govan Mbeki, Rustenburg, the Royal Bafolken, and Victor Kanye, Tembizil Hani, Midvale and Emmafeni.”
Maintenance operations are strategically scheduled between May and July 2025 for low consumption months, minimizing disruption and better managing potential impacts on water supply, Rand Water said.
