Johannesburg – Gauterene has launched Crevamova, a special product offering a 50% discount on train travel.

Klevamova offers a 50% discount to students under the age of 25, academics, pensioners, and individuals living in households with South Africa's Social Security Agency (Sassa) disability grant recipients, combined with annual incomes for households with R350 000 or less.

Transport costs are one of the highest cost items far from the economic hub for many households, especially those located in the vicinity of cities.

This was confirmed in Gauteng's Home Travel Survey, in 2019/20, nearly 60% of households spent more than 10% of their income on public transport, up from 55% in 2014.

“We are pleased to announce that the Gautrain Train fares will become more affordable,” said Gauteng Mec, roads and transport at Kedibone Diale-Tlabela.

She added that affordable and accessible public transport is important to reduce the cost of living for many South Africans, as it has a significant impact on household budgets and access to opportunities.

“As a result of South Africa's historic spatial planning, many people live far from jobs and opportunities and face high transportation costs,” said Diale-Tlabela.

“Klevamova will acquire a large portion of the Gauten population and form part of the government's efforts to attract a variety of passengers across the revenue group, ensuring that costs are not a barrier to accessing efficient, safe and convenient public transport.

MEC has also urged businesses to encourage qualified employees to use Klevamova products.

Klevamova offers eligible customers a 50% discount on Gautrain Train Fares only, and is available as a return trip product weekly and monthly.

To qualify for the discount, the interested individual must submit and apply for the relevant documents, which are subject to the approval and verification process.

For more information about this product, public members can contact Gertrain on toll free number 0800 428 87246 (0800 gautrain) daily, from 05h30 to 20h00. Please visit http://www.gautrain.co.za.

In addition to the Klevamova 50% discount product, Gautrain has announced significant reductions in parking fees. All passengers can park at Garterene Station for R1 per day on the train from April 1 to July 31, 2025.

“Gauteng's 25-year Integrated Transport Master Plan (ITMP25) prioritizes the passenger rail network as the backbone of the state's modernized integrated transport system,” said MEC Diale-Tlabela.

“Take more people off the roads brings lots of benefits, including road congestion, road accidents, and harmful carbon footprints.”

With the launch of Klevamova, diverse people across the income group can access efficient public transport services, improve the commute experience, reduce commuting-related stress, and improve the overall quality of life.
