South Africa's infrastructure

sIn 2020, South Africa has an infrastructure coordination agency known as South Africa (ISA) that reports to the Presidential Infrastructure Coordination Committee.

The biggest event on the ISA calendar is the Symposium on Sustainable Infrastructure Development in South Africa (SIDSSA). The highlight of the event's third holding, the 2024 symposium, was the first publication and release by the ISA of the Construction Book listing all infrastructure projects launched by the Government and the State Enterprises (SOC) in fiscal year 2024/25. Other highlights of SIDSSA were the announcement and update of the infrastructure fund pipeline on progress of strategic integration projects viewed in 2020 and 2022.

This year, South Africa's Infrastructure held Sidsa at the Century City Convention Centre in Cape Town from May 26th to 27th, 2025. The event provided important progress updates on the country's infrastructure pipeline.

During the symposium, the second edition of the Construction Book was released, featuring over 250 projects, over R268 billion, almost doubled the value of the previous edition. Additionally, the top seven catalyst projects have been announced to support the preparation of the project, benefiting from the initial phosphorous material funding allocation to accelerate implementation.

The top 12 priority projects in the ISA are:

  • Healthcare Infrastructure Program (National)
  • Educational Infrastructure Program (National)
  • Ngqura Port Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Eastern Cape
